Book Review

Shipmates: I have just finished reading a new book on Admiral Nimitz. The title of the book is “Admiral Nimitz, The Commander of the Pacific Ocean Theater and the author is Brayton Harris. The publisher is Palgrave MacMillan and the book price in hardcover is $26.00. I found this biography of Admiral Nimitz to be fascinating and concise. I believe Mr. Harris has captured the true spirit of the Admiral and he has well documented and researched his facts. I was amazed at the amount of information that I did not know and is contained in this book. I hope everyone has an opportunity to read this book and I highly recommend it. The publisher was kind enough to provide me with extra copies that I will have as silent auction items at our next reunion! Phyllis and I are looking forward hosting and to seeing everyone in Sacramento in September!

Shipmates:

I regret to announce the passing of Bev Scott (Bud Scott's wife). For those who don't know Bud passed away a few years ago and was one of the Founding Fathers' of the Association. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Change of Command

Shipmates: On Thursday, May 29th, Joe Murphy and I had the honor of participating in the Change of Command for Captain Paul O. Monger aboard the Great Ship Nimitz in her new homeport of Everett, Washington. Captain Monger was relieved by Captain Jeffrey S. Ruth in a two hour ceremony that was held in Hanger Bay Two. Joe and I were treated as VIP’s the whole time we were aboard, including attending the reception in the Captain’s cabin. The Association had the honor to sponsor and I presented a Leadership Award to Chief Petty Officer Wilber Thomas. I also presented CPO Thomas with an Association Challenge Coin and a one year membership in the Association. Please check out the pictures of the COC at (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cvn68).
