Capt. Manzir's message to the Association upon taking command
“I am excited to take the helm of Nimitz at this critical juncture in her life. I am humbled and honored to be given the opportunity to lead the fine men and women on this crew. They have shown me through my month of turnover with Captain Branch and my two weeks in command, that they are the finest on any waterfront. Nimitz stands ready to do the bidding of the President and the Secretary of Defense and to continue to spread American influence throughout the world in these dangerous times.
It is a particular honor to continue the tradition as the 14th Captain of the lead ship in the Nimitz class and to continue the tradition of teamwork and cooperation with the USS Nimitz Association. The Association’s support forms a strong pillar in demonstrating American resolve in sending America’s finest into harm’s way in the pursuit of American ideals.”
I look forward to the opportunity to address the Association in the future. Regrettably, we will be on deployment for this year’s event.
